I had a container of water and a bottle of coke on a table in youth group this morning. I asked a student to fill the container with coke without spilling the water on the table. He couldn't do it.

 

After a bit of discussion, he asked if he could dump the water out in a pail and then fill it with coke which was what I was aiming for. He had to empty it of water to be filled with coke.

 

God wants to fill, or control us. He wants to have total and complete control of our lives. But first He must empty us of ourselves, our selfishness, our pride, our desires before His desires and plans can come in. It's a process.

 

Sometimes it hurts to loose desires that we hold so dear to our hearts. But is it worth it? Yes! As the song says, "nothing compares to the promise I have in You".

 

Allow God to empty yourself of you this week so He can come in and fill your life with the abundant life He longs to give you. Empty me of the selfishness inside All the vain ambitions, and the poison of my pride and any foolish thing my heart holds to. Lord empty me of me so I can be filled with You.
