Even Worse Than My Flu Sunday, May 30, 2004
While recovering from the flu today, I was laying down and flipping through the tv channels. I saw drama, comedy, stuff that was supposed to be comedy, and then I came upon something that was really sad.
I landed on a documentary on religions, (I guess) and actually saw a man put a crown of thorns on his head, lay down on a cross to which he was tied, and then watched as they drove nails in his hands and raised the cross up for a few minutes. He was doing this in order to pay for some wrong doing and to make God happy by paying for it.
I wanted to find out where this man lived and go tell him that the price had already been paid. It seemed that he was so close to the truth, (the crucifixion), and yet so very far away.
Instead of making God happy by his suffering, I'm sure it brought a tear to the eyes of Christ. I could just imaging Jesus crying out, "you don't have to do that because I already did". Jesus offers forgiveness free and clear just by trusting Him to do so.
Though the man suffered tremendously through his ordeal, his sin was still not forgiven. Jesus said He was the way, truth and life. We aren't the way - He is!
I will probably never have the opportunity to reach this man with the Gospel. However, I can ask you. Have you accepted his forgiveness?
