How Quickly We Turn   Sunday, April 04, 2004

Today I was at a birthday party. I sang "Happy Birthday" (fortunately for them, not by myself), and we had cake. Fun stuff! But next week am I planning to go up to their house and throw rocks, break some windows, etc.? No way! That would be ridiculous! But that's kind of what they did to Jesus.

He rode into town as the people were praising Him. They were so glad to have Him there. But one short week later, they had Him on a cross.

Before we complain about their actions, don't we do the same thing? We commit our lives to Christ, say we are going to live for Him and next thing we know, we are disobeying Him. Disobedience is basically slapping God in the face and telling Him that we are going to do what WE WANT to do.

I'm glad, as a Christian, I'm forgiven. I'm glad He never stops loving me, even in my disobedience. Let's use the love He has for us to encourage us to love Him back. And when we love Him, we will serve Him. Jesus said that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. So let's love Him. The result will be serving Him.

Serving Jesus is not a result of focusing on service but a focus on LOVING HIM!
